Team Profile | Emma | How Contractus enabled me to develop my skills in Human Resource Management

A bit about Emma

I’m a wife and also “Mum” to two young children, looking to develop myself further as an HR professional. I enjoy walks in the countryside and along our local canal, and helping on a voluntary basis in my children’s school

What I brought with me

  • Before joining Contractus I was an Infant School teacher for 15 years

  • I brought with me many transferrable skills, including skills gained from my time on the School Leadership Team, which I have been able to apply to my role in an HR capacity at Contractus – namely strong organizational and teamwork skills, along with experience in planning and leading training and development opportunities

  • My experience of presenting and communicating with a variety of stakeholders has resulted in a flexible approach to communication styles

What I do at Contractus

  • As the Human Resources Manager, I act as the main point of contact for employees for a range of employment related queries. My role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Recruitment, onboarding and induction of new starters

  • Implementing and coordinating the L&D cycle, including performance reviews and planning and delivering training and development

  • Overseeing the administrative functions of the organisation through maintaining systems of accurate record-keeping

  • Being an advocate for Employee wellbeing and engagement and providing opportunities to enhance Employee voice

What I gained

  • Opportunities to engage with professional development, for example completing a CIPD course ‘HR in Practice’

  • Increased knowledge and confidence in statutory requirements and guidance for employers

  • Experience of coordinating communication within a hybrid working team

  • A chance to make a difference to the employee experience
